Fishing in Watch Lake

Watch Lake is popular family lake that has good numbers of rainbow in the 1 to 5 pound range caught by fly-fishing or spin-casting. The lake has a maximum depth of 10 metres (32 ft) and is therefore difficult to troll except if you drag a lure or fly on or just below the surface. Numerous bays provide shelter for a canoe or belly boat. Cast near the shore area with a chironomid fly in early spring or a dragon-fly or leech imitation later in the spring and summer.

Watch Lake is known for its great rainbow trout fishing and natural beauty.

Two sunken islands at the west end of the lake are productive spots. The lake was stocked in April 2005 with 40,000 Pennask rainbow yearlings, which grew to around 10 or 11 inches long by October of 2005, and should be good keepers by the spring of 2006. A scrappy, fast growing strain of rainbow called the "tzenzaicut" was stocked from 2000 to 2004. These have now grown to over 8 pounds.

Watch Lake is a "quiet" lake, with a speed restriction of less than 8 kpm (5 mph) and a motor restriction of 9.9 hp. There is no bait restriction. The lake freezes over by the end of November and the ice comes off around mid-April.
